Venetian plaster is not paint. It's made from crushed Italian marble and aged lime — the same materials used in historic palazzos and cathedrals for centuries. It's hand-applied in multiple thin layers and burnished to create genuine depth, texture, and movement. Paint sits on the wall. Venetian plaster becomes part of the wall.
It's significantly more durable. Paint peels, chips, and fades. Properly applied Venetian plaster does not. The lime content actually continues to harden after application. Historic buildings in Europe still carry original Venetian plaster finishes that are hundreds of years old. With proper care, this is a lifetime wall finish.
Yes. Authentic lime-based Venetian plaster is naturally breathable, moisture-resistant, and inhibits mold growth. It's an excellent choice for powder rooms and bathroom walls. Not recommended for direct water contact zones like shower interiors without specific sealers — which we'll review during your consultation.
Most polished finishes require nothing more than a soft, lightly dampened cloth for regular cleaning. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pads, or high-pressure water. We provide specific care instructions for your exact finish type at the end of every project — in writing, not just verbally.
Standard drywall is the most common substrate and works very well. Existing plaster walls and concrete may also qualify depending on condition. We assess the surface during the in-person consultation and will tell you honestly if a wall needs preparation before a quality application is possible.
Most single accent wall or focused projects take 2–4 days including required cure time between layers. Full-room applications take longer depending on scope. We provide a realistic timeline during the consultation — not an optimistic number designed to get you to sign.
Minor damage can typically be repaired. The quality of the repair depends on the finish type — polished finishes are more technically demanding to match. We'll discuss repair options honestly when the situation arises.
Yes. Our system is applied directly over qualifying existing countertops — no tear-out required. That means no plumbing disconnection, no cabinet damage risk, no landfill waste, and significantly less disruption than a full replacement. Most projects are completed in 48–72 hours, versus 1–3 weeks for a full replacement.
We can typically work over laminate, Formica, granite, quartz, Corian, tile, and concrete substrates. The specific condition of your existing surface matters — we assess it during the in-person consultation and will tell you honestly whether it qualifies.
Our professional-grade protective top coat is engineered for daily kitchen use with rated scratch and impact resistance. Normal kitchen activity will not damage a properly finished surface. We recommend the same habits you'd use with any quality countertop — cutting boards for food prep, trivets for high-heat items.
Our system is heat-rated for significant direct heat contact. That said, the same practical care you'd apply to quartz or granite applies here — use trivets for extended high-heat contact and avoid extreme thermal shock.
Typical use timeline: light use within 24 hours; normal everyday kitchen use within 48–72 hours; full cure, including maximum chemical resistance, within approximately 2 weeks. We'll provide a specific timeline based on your chosen system and current conditions before we start.
Warm water and mild dish soap with a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, and solvent-based products. We provide written care instructions at project completion.
In most cases, yes — especially when you account for the full cost of replacement: demolition, disposal fees, new material, plumbing reconnect, potential cabinet damage, and weeks of kitchen disruption. Our system delivers a superior custom aesthetic at a more competitive all-in cost. Custom countertop projects start at $2,500.
Yes. Our commercial-grade finish system is engineered for daily kitchen use. It is heat-rated for significant direct contact and includes a stain-resistant, food-safe protective top coat. We recommend trivets for extended high-heat exposure — the same sensible habit you’d apply to any premium stone surface.
Most kitchen countertop transformations are complete within 48–72 hours from start to finish. Compare that to a full replacement, which typically means 1–3 weeks of disruption including demolition, material lead times, and reinstallation. You’ll be using your kitchen within days, not weeks.
Every project is custom-quoted based on square footage, surface condition, finish complexity, and scope. We don't publish a rate card because a 40 sq ft powder room Venetian application and a 200 sq ft full-room installation are fundamentally different in material and labor. Request a consultation for a real quote on your specific project.
Yes. A deposit is required to schedule and secure your project date. We'll cover the specific deposit structure during the consultation and quote process. Payment terms are clear, in writing, and discussed before any project begins.
We visit your home, assess the surface or wall, discuss your vision, show you finish samples relevant to your space, and answer every question you have. At the end, you'll have a clear understanding of what's possible, what it costs, and what the timeline looks like. The consultation carries no obligation.

Our lifetime warranty covers defects in workmanship and material failure under normal residential use conditions when the surface has been maintained per our care guidelines. It does not cover damage from misuse, abuse, improper cleaning products, or modifications made by others after installation. Full warranty terms are provided in writing with every project.
Using abrasive or solvent-based cleaners on the surface. Significant physical abuse or impact damage. Modifications to the surface by anyone other than Surface Evolution. Failure to follow the written care instructions provided at project completion.
Contact us directly by phone or email with a description of the issue and photos. We'll assess the situation and respond within one business day. Legitimate warranty issues are addressed without argument or delay — that's the whole point of backing our work.
